Eligibility

The CARE Upward Bound Program assists first-generation, low-income students to achieve their goal of college attendance. To be eligible for the program, a student must:

  • Aspire to earn a bachelor's degree and demonstrate academic need
  • Have a need for academic support
  • Commit to attending a 6-week summer residential component
  • Commit three afternoons per week on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 2:40PM to 5:15PM for tutoring and counseling sessions
  • Commit one Saturday each month to a group session/cultural activity generally held in Tallahassee
  • Have a parent or legal guardian that is committed to supporting the goals of the program
  • Meet the US Department of Education's Income Guidelines
    • Must submit IRS Form 1040, 1040A, 1040EZ
  • Be a first generation (neither parent holds a bachelor's degree)
  • Be a citizen of the U.S. or a permanent resident
  • Attend Gadsden County High School (or a student who will be graduating the 8th grade from a designated feeder school)
