Where to File for Financial Aid

The FAFSA can be completed online at https://fafsa.ed.gov/.

  • CAUTION!!!! Be sure to go to https://fafsa.ed.gov/. This is the OFFICIAL, FEDERAL, FREE website for the FAFSA. All other websites are FAKE!!! You should NEVER pay for completing the FAFSA; it is FREE. If you have questions about completing the FAFSA, contact the CARE Financial Aid Specialist at (850) 644-9699, or the FSU Office of Financial Aid at ofacs@admin.fsu.edu, or call (850) 644-0539 Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM.
  • The Florida State University school code for the FAFSA application is 001489.

When to File for Financial Aid

OCTOBER 1 is the best date to apply. The application does not open until that day! You need to apply EACH year for federal, state, and institutional grant, work study, and loan consideration. Funds are limited, so it's important to APPLY ON OCTOBER 1! Data Retrieval is preferred.

If you qualify for a Florida Bright Futures scholarship you must complete the FAFSA in order to receive a Bright Futures disbursement.

Summer Financial Aid Process

To apply for Summer Financial Aid, you must be registered for Summer courses. Financial aid will award summer aid based on your enrollment in Student Central. There is no longer a need to apply for Summer aid separately.
