Student Support Services

The Student Support Services Program (SSSP) is a federal TRIO grant program that provides opportunities for academic development, and assists FSU students by motivating them to complete their post-secondary education. The goal of the Student Support Services Program is to increase the college retention and graduation rates of its participants and facilitate the process of transition from one level of higher education to the next.

Who can participate in SSSP?

To receive assistance from SSSP, a student:

  • Must be enrolled full-time at FSU
  • Must be a low-income student (as defined by federal standards)
  • Must be a first generation college student

The program at FSU serves 160 undergraduate participants, and requires students to participate for a minimum of four calendar years or until they graduate.

What services does the program provide?

Services are available to each participant until graduation from FSU. Support is provided through academic advising, career counseling and assistance, tutorial services, and a tutorial lab equipped with computer stations for SSSP and C.A.R.E. participants. SSSP also provides counseling support to assist students with personal needs both socially and emotionally. Participants benefit from cultural and social enrichment activities such as plays, lectures, workshops and field trips. Additionally, eligible program participants may qualify for a grant-in-aid supplement offered through this program. The criteria for this supplement are based on financial aid eligibility and participation in SSSP sponsored activities.

How do I apply?

If you have been admitted to The Florida State University through the C.A.R.E. Summer Bridge Program, or you are a currently enrolled student who meets the qualifications, you are eligible to complete an application for SSSP. Please note that if you are accepted through the Summer Bridge Program you must accept your invitation to enroll in The Florida State University in order to be eligible for the program. If you decide to apply for SSSP, you must submit a copy of your parents’ and/ or your most recent federal income tax returns with your application.

Should you have additional questions please feel free to contact any SSSP staff member at (850) 644-9279 or (850) 644-9699.
