The Oscar Arias Sanchez Hispanic Honor Society was formed in the fall of 1992 to recognize academic excellence among students of Hispanic heritage. The O.A.S.H.H.S. is a scholastic and leadership society that promotes participation in other campus honor societies and works with charitable organizations serving Tallahassee and its neighboring communities.
Membership
Membership into the O.A.S.H.H.S. shall be granted to those sophomores, juniors, seniors and transfer students of Hispanic heritage who have attained a 3.3 cumulative GPA or above and who have fulfilled the required service projects.
Induction
A formal induction ceremony is conducted every year in the spring semester. To be inducted, a member must attain 20 points during each of the two semesters preceding the induction.
Point System
Every inducted member is required to attain at least 14 points per semester in order to remain an active member of the organization. Points are attained by participating in a variety of events that are specified at the beginning of each year.
The Oscar Arias Sanchez Hispanic Honor Society sponsors many activities each semester, including:
- Induction ceremonies
- Dean's list reception
- Workshops and seminars promoting cultural awareness
- Community outreach service projects "leading through service"
- Social activities for members
O.A.S.H.H.S. members who have attained 20 points per semester have the privilege of receiving a graduation cord and a membership pin. These deserving individuals will be eligible to wear the colors (forest green and gold) and "estola de honor" of the Oscar Arias Sanchez Hispanic Honor Society.

The W.E.B. Du Bois Honor Society |
The W.E.B. Du Bois Honor Society was established at the Florida State University in 1991 with the induction of 75 charter members. It is a scholastic, leadership and service organization which recognizes the academic achievements of African-American students. The purpose of the W.E.B. Du Bois Honor Society is to honor the memory of the outstanding educator, Dr. W.E.B. Du Bois by promoting the pursuit of academic excellence in all fields of higher education and to engage the community of scholars in service to others.
Membership
Membership into the W.E.B. Du Bois Honor Society is open to all students of sound character who meet the following membership criteria:
- Undergraduate degree-seeking student enrolled full-time
- Must have achieved sophomore status (30 semester credits or more).
- Must have achieved and maintained a minimum grade point average of 3.3
- Must rank in the upper twenty percent of his/her class at the time of nomination
Induction
A formal induction ceremony is conducted every year during the fall semester. Members will be inducted to membership by invitation only. Letters of invitation will be sent to eligible students at least once each academic year.
No eligible university student may be denied membership on the basis of race, creed, religion, gender, age, sexual orientation, national origin, marital status, parental status, disability or the inability to pay dues.
