What is the College Reach-Out
Program

Since 1992, The Florida State University has implemented the College
Reach-Out Program (CROP) as part of a state-wide initiative funded by
the Florida Department of Education.
At FSU, CROP is administered by the Center for Academic Retention and
Enhancement, and serves the following schools in Leon, Gadsden, and Wakulla
counties:
Havana Middle School, East Gadsden High School, West Gadsden High School,
Wakulla High School, and Lincoln High School.
The College Reach-Out Program is an educational and motivational program
that is designed to help students prepare for a successful college education.
Participants in CROP must be students in grades 6-12 who meet certain
educational and economic criteria as set forth by the State of Florida.
Students must be enrolled at one the targeted schools.

University Experience Program
The University Experience Program (UEP) is a summer
residential program that exposes high school students to college life.
During the two-week program, students are housed in a residence hall;
introduced to the realities of campus life; attend workshops on the admission's
process, financial aid, and career decision-making; take tours of museums
and cultural sites; learn standardized test-taking strategies; and take
a special administration of the SAT. CARE staff and FSU upperclassmen
serve as advisors and mentors to the students during the program. High
school junior and seniors will have the opportunity to learn more about
higher education by spending two weeks at Florida State University.
Activities and workshops will address the following topics:
- How to be admitted to the college of your choice
- How to apply to college
- How to apply for financial aid and what aid is available
- Where to look for scholarships
- Where to find academic services on campus
- How to survive in college: developing good study habits
- How to prepare for the SAT
- How to academically prepare for college
